Life was somewhat manic this week as I began the final stages of my grand move to the Scottish Highlands to live the life I’ve dreamed of for 20 years – ever since I fell in love with the region on a holiday visit.
I don’t have much time to spare just now, so I’ll just share the photos from the first few days, which involved moving my horse as well as me.
Alfie was totally bemused by the view from his new field – 5 days later, and he’s still gazing at it in astonishment, particularly when ships chug past.
This is the Moray Firth, with Inverness to the right on the far bank, and Loch Ness just behind.
In the centre of this little video, if you spot where the two pieces of land jut out into the firth, is where the dolphins come to fish and play at the turn of the tide.
After the washout of endless rain and storms, a little sunshine was a very welcome sight.
That’s the farmhouse on the left, and if you look to the right, that isn’t simply clouds, it’s the local mountain, Ben Wyvis, glorious in its covering of snow.
In fact, the next morning was even more sunny, and this was the view over my garden fence.
And there you have it. It’ll take a while to settle in and get my new life organised, but I’m where I’ve wanted to be for so very long, I can’t wait!
And, of course, that means there will be scheduled time for writing.
In the meanwhile, I was very proud to have one of my equestrian books taken to school by a young pupil, in celebration of World Book Day.

To visit the Scottish Highlands would be exciting for us but transportation could be challenge. How accessible are trains and buses here? It’s nice to visualize such a place where I seemingly would not have to worry about social distancing.

There’s plenty of public transport to the towns, and lots of companies doing coach and minibus tours (obviously not at the moment, but normally) to even the more remote locations. Tourism is one of Scotland’s biggest industries, so this year is going to be a thin one!
