Life is a little hectic just now, the busiest time of the year in my day job with the competition season in full swing, so writing time is in short supply.
With that being the case, blog posts are somewhat lower on my agenda than I’d like (ideas, not so much – storing those up for the future), so right now here is a little share: me, giving my first video interview, talking about the genesis of THE WORLD AND THE STARS anthology, and a bit about my writing in general.
Of course after the interview (recorded at Eastercon 2015) was concluded, I remembered all the things I’d really meant to say, but didn’t.
And if I could go back and do it again, I’d like to edit out all those super-intelligent-sounding ‘ums’…
I’d also like to redo:
- the hideous camera angle (it was on a coffee table, balanced on top of a pile of my books)
- my hair
- the lighting
- put on some makeup
but hey, this is the real me, warts and all (figuratively speaking, you understand).

Aw, thanks for sharing, Deb! I loved getting to see you chat up your book! (Oooh, I said “chat up,” I’ve been assured this makes me bi-lingual! Hahaha.) Your accent reminds me of my friend from Arbroath. It was lovely to hear you speak, truly! If you ever hear me, you’ll fall over laughing at my southern drawl. 😀

Lol. Your friend from Arbroath can’t have a very Scottish accent then, as mine is very middle-class England.

Oh, she does, though. It’s just that I’m bad at knowing the difference. Sort of like most of us southerners can tell an Alabaman from a Georgian, and so forth, where to someone from another country, or even from the northern part of this one, we probably all sound alike.
Then there’s the fact that my hearing is TERRIBLE. I actually couldn’t understand but a few words in the entire video. I’m lost without closed captioning. But the sounds were very soothing, like her voice is. Sorry for the mix-up! And no, I don’t think I’m going to be doing any recordings. I HATE how I sound when I hear myself like that. (Most of us probably do). And I darn well don’t want to look at myself, either. If I scrutinize myself, my inner critic will stop me from going out and doing my events, and I don’t want to stop. 😀

Deb so nice to meet you, lol. Awesome interview. You go girl! Oh, and lol, I just did my first interview with a divorce coach (just blogged it) and mine was only audio and I had stage fright, and um, ya, a couple too many ums lol. 🙂

Yay – will stop in and take a listen later today 🙂 I’m absolutely fine speaking in front of crowds or camera (I give lectures at times) but when I do that, I know exactly what I’m going to say. If I’d known the questions in advance, I would have found it easier, but I realise that’s not always possible in a live interview.
Will do better next time…

I can certainly understand. I was happy to converse with the girl who interviewed me prior. And she sent me a list of questions she was going to bring up, which gave me time to prepare notes. But you did fine! 🙂
