#BookReview SADDLED HEARTS by Jan Sikes #RomanticSuspense

I know I’ve promised to share the results of my December promo, and I will, but being a free promo, the results will be slower to appear and analyse, so I will get an initial post about it put together after the end of this month, and then we can try to estimate it FREE is still an effective tool.

One thing I will share though, is my first new review from the promo, and a lovely review it is too!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great fantasy story!Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2023

Verified Purchase

I’ll admit it. I’m so shallow I first got this book for the amazing cover. The description was good, too, but I’ve gotten other books with good descriptions only to have them not live up to my expectations. This book met and exceeded my expectations! The descriptions were rich and vivid, the action non-stop. The characters grew on me, and I loved seeing how they changed through the adventures and mishaps they endured. I loved the details of the magic system, and how the main character grows to accept magic. I loved how he cared about a horse, a detail often over-looked in books. For me, this book ranks right up there with Mercedes Lackey’s Valdemar series, although the kingdom the main characters are from, being based largely upon spying, isn’t nearly as kind a place to live as is Valdemar. But the writing is tight, the adventures move you right along, and the story is engaging. I’ll be doing something I rarely do when I’ve read the first book in a series for free–buying the next book!

As you might imagine, I’m thrilled with this review, thank you to the lovely reader who took the time to leave it.

And next, here is my review from one I read: SADDLED HEARTS by Jan Sikes

Blurb

Colt Layne owns the Layne Horse Sanctuary. He lives an idyllic life, between caring for the animals and playing music with his band. That is until a stranger appears with unreasonable demands. When someone murders the man, Colt is arrested. He’s been framed, but by whom and why?
He needs to talk with his deceased grandfather. But that’s impossible. Or is it?
Sage Coventry is gifted with the ability to communicate with the deceased. Skeptical but desperate, when Colt consults with her, he gets more than messages from beyond the grave as she breezes into his heart with sweet patchouli fragrance and tempting lips he longs to kiss.
The race against time to clear his name and save the ranch launches them on a mission that brings shocking revelations.

My review

Saddled Hearts (The White Rune Series Book 3)Saddled Hearts by Jan Sikes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Colt Layne is my kinda man! Retired bronc rider, now this handsome cowboy runs a horse sanctuary on the ranch he inherited from his grandfather, and heads a successful rock band.
Then one day, a stranger arrives, claiming he won the ranch from Colt’s grandfather in a card game years ago. He has no proof, but he’s clearly out to make trouble.
Colt decides he needs answers from his deceased grandfather, and with some trepidation, consults a medium. What he doesn’t expect, is that the medium is a gorgeous woman who quickens his previously hardened heart.
And then strange things start happening at the ranch – dangerous things. And when Colt goes to confront the stranger who claims the ranch is his, he finds the man dying in his motel room. Unfortunately, Colt had previously threatened the man in public, so instantly becomes the prime suspect.
This is a curious mixture of light paranormal, murder mystery and love story. It works quite well, although it keeps the pace quite steady. I absolutely loved the characters and the setting, and the writing provided me with vivid images and experiences of events. Unlike a traditional romance, there is no conflict in the developing relationship between Colt and Sage – tension is reserved for the nasty goings-on at the ranch and the murder charge.
The resolution is exciting and poignant all in one, with a satisfying ending. This is outside my regular reading choices, but I’m glad I picked it up. Although it’s the third book in a series, it stood all on its own just fine.

      1. I have the first in this series, so maybe I’ll just go ahead and grab 2 and 3, so I can binge read them all at once. I CAN read all three books in 30 minutes or so, right? 😂😂😂

Okay. It might take me longer than that, but I’m a fast reader when I find time to really get into a series. Slow or fast, I’m gonna read them soon, honest!! 😊
