I have just read and reviewed this novella ARC, and the book was released a couple of days ago.
THE REGULAR GUY is part of a series I’ve been enjoying very much – you’ll have seen me review previous books if you’ve been here for a while. If not, you can take a look at my earlier reviews by following the links at the bottom of this post.
THE SOUL SUMMONER series is paranormal, or supernatural, depending on how you want to classify it. Angels and demons, that’s what it deals with. And it does it very well, in my opinion. No, I’m not suggesting this is how things really are (you don’t think angels and demons exist? Shame on you), but it is entertaining. I have (as you can see) joined up as an ARC reader, because I’m keen to read each book as soon as it comes out – that’s a pretty good recommendation, in my opinion.
So without laying it on any thicker, here’s my review of the latest.
The Regular Guy: A Nathan McNamara Story by Elicia Hyder
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
THE REGULAR GUY is the latest offering in the SOUL SUMMONER series, a series I am really enjoying. This novella is told from Nathan’s wonderfully realistic point of view – that of a man who is frustrated as hell by his ‘are we or aren’t we going to do it’ situation with the love of his life, Sloane, following the dramatic exit of Sloane’s fiancé, Warren, at the end of the last book. That Nathan and Warren have a best buddies relationship only serves to complicate things further.
Of course, there are supernatural goings on – Sloane’s baby daughter is, after all, the most powerful angel in history (or she will when be she learns to talk and walk) – and danger always lurks just on the edge of their complicated lives. Secondary characters have their own issues that might, or might not, impact the situation going forward, but its lovely to see them all developing, and I am really looking forward to the next in series.
Ms Hyder has a true gift for writing dialogue, through which much of the story is told, and her characters linger in your mind long after finishing each book. If you enjoy tales of angels and demons, mixed with everyday scenarios, then I highly recommend you read this series, but do start at the beginning.
I received an ARC from the author which in no way influenced my opinion.
Here are my earlier reviews:
Book #1, THE SOUL SUMMONER
Book #2, THE SIREN
Book #3, THE ANGEL OF DEATH
Book #4, THE TAKEN
Book #5 THE SACRIFICE – review pending – I read this book several months ago when I didn’t have time (and had frankly lost impetus since Amazon decided to restrict my ability to leave reviews to the UK site only) and now I need to go back and find the time. I WILL get it done soon, promise.
Beautiful review ❤📖

Enticing review, Deborah. I just started Diana Peach’s first-in-a-series called Soul Swallower so this is extra interesting.
