#Promo success! Rocketing up the #Amazon rankings :-D

Very happy tonight with the results so far of my celebratory sale

Desprite Measures is knocking at the door of the Amazon Top 100 in the highly competitive Urban and Paranormal category ๐Ÿ˜€

DM Amazon US 12th Aug 15

Fingers crossed it continues to rise.

Once THE PRINCE’S MAN got into the Top 100 (Epic Fantasy) it stayed there for almost 6 months – nothing breeds success like success (and Amazon algorithms…)

I’d like to be able to track which ads worked best, but I’m not sureย how many of the sites willย provide this information. I took out 7 paid ads, totalling around $50, plus as many free ads as I could find.

I do know, based on promos I’ve run in the past, that the likely success factor here was scoring an ad with ENT (Ereader News Today). I have yet to try for a Bookbub ad – that might come later, when I have more books out to benefit from any knock on results. Always assuming I can get in with them; not easy, I know.

I’ve tried Desprite Measures with ENT before, but they refused it last time. It has a few more reviews now, and still a high star rating (4.5), so I’m guessing that might be why they took it this time.

So I’ve hit the facebook promo sites tonight, and boosted my post about the sale – first time for trying this, so let’s see how it works out.

Authors, what are your favourite promo sites? And readers, where do you like to find your next ebook?

  1. Woo Hoo!!! Good on you! I am not reading right now, too much going on being summertime, but I have yours, and others, to review so I need to get on a pogo stick! ๐Ÿ˜‰

      Is the world still turning?
And can we please have some video of you on the pogo stick… ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. HA! Once I get there, kiddo, once I get there! And I know, I SHOULD be reading, but it is so HOT out, I am drained… chemo killed my thermostat, so I find myself simply sleeping in the basement – WAY too much. Bears hibernate in the winter – I hibernate in the summer! LOL…. I do have to get moving though. I am way too sluggish right now.

      2. I know sluggish – we’ve just had 12 hours of thunderstorms, much of it overnight. My poor Jack Russell (Frodo) doesn’t do thunder and lightning. I spent much of the night up with him.

  2. I’m a new blogger with a few fantasy books and I am impressed with your mktg strategy and it inspires me to get on with mine. Good luck with hitting the top 100. WordPress do a really good course on raising a following (#blogging101) – could be good for you?

    1. Hi Garth, nice to meet you, and I’m glad my post has inspired you.
Thanks for the suggestion; I recently made the decision that my priority must be to get more books finished, so any other training is on hold for the time being – so easy to get dragged away from writing which, after all, has to be the main goal.
      No books, nothing to market.
Good luck with your new blog – I love mine, even if it is a time-suck ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. Yay Deb! Good for you! I’ve tried to advertise with ENT before, and every time I’m on promo and go there the site says they aren’t taking submissions at those times. Glad you got in. Who else did you do ads with? I’d be happy to share who I did my last promos with when one of my books was on free, and found I got a few thousand downloads. But I’ll have to check out my promo sheet on my other computer and get back to you on that. I always use Author marketing club, and storyfinds and another (I can’t remember the name at the moment) where I pay a fee and they download to over 30 sites for me. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Wow, that’s a great result – I’ve not gone for a free promo yet, as I don’t have enough books out there (in the same series) to be worth it, on the grounds that the idea is to funnel readers towards your other books.
Bad luck with ENT – I’ve had 2 ads with them now and each has produced over a hundred sales. I plan on doing a roundup post in a few days, with the results of the promo, so check back then, though I find it is very genre dependant, choosing marketing companies – storyfinds got me zilch.

      1. Deb, I don’t believe you need a series to draw readers to your other books. You have 4 books out (am I correct, including the anthology?) If a reader enjoys your writing, they will visit your other works as well. Not every author writes series. Free promos work better for me than countdowns. I get a lot of downloads and then sales trickle in after to my other books. Maybe you want to consider it. ๐Ÿ™‚

      2. I know what you are saying, I just know fantasy readers have a bit of a tendency to stick with their preferred sub-genres, so not as keen to read other work not in the same niche. Maybe I’m wrong, but I can’t now do another promo with KDP select for 3 months, so I have a while to consider it!

      3. Well it’s food for thought. You have 3 books in that category now, so think about giving it a try in a few months. ๐Ÿ™‚
